Empty Nesters’ Family Home Evening will be on September 14 at 18:00 (6pm) at the home of Dane and Debbie Allred (465 E 400 N).

Again, please note the change of time. It will be at 18:00 (6pm) this time because we will be having a pot luck dinner. Sloppy joes will be provided. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish or a dessert of their choosing.

The Church has always been Home Centered, Church Supported. This change is not just to class length and frequency; it is also a change to the structure of classes.

The change can be summarized in six words: Home Centered Teaching, Church Supported Discussion. At home we’ll teach the material for the next Sunday’s classes. At church we’ll come together to discuss what we learned, felt, and experienced with the weekly reading, how the principles in the reading apply to our lives, how we become more like Christ, and what this teaches us about our Savior.

At home, we have the opportunity to study the scriptures or conference talks with a little more purpose. This is a good time to challenge ourselves not just to read the material but perhaps come prepared to share something we learned in our next class. Even if we don’t share , we are blessed as we prepare to share. It crystalizes something we’ve learned and we are likely to remember it better.

At church, teachers will lead discussions on that week’s material but not teach it. They may include a brief summary as a reminder to class of the topic. We’ve been asked to make a deliberate effort to immediately get into the discussion & the scriptures, focusing on the principles in the material for that Sunday.

The teacher may select 1-3 principles from the material, craft an open-ended question about them, and present them for discussion one at a time or all at once.

Our leaders would like as many people as possible to share during each class so please keep your comments concise. Those who are quieter by nature, maybe ponder on how you could feel more comfortable sharing. We learn from everyone’s perspectives so would like for many to have the opportunity to share. It's about enriching our understanding of the principles through what is shared.

The content of classes now rests on everyone in the class sharing, so we hope you’ll come ready to participate in class discussions.

Elder Renlund said we are sharing ourselves, our thoughts, and our experiences to build deeper understanding of the principles, to have greater unity with each other, and to strengthen our testimony.

We aren’t losing any class time, just spreading it out over two weeks. Sunday School taught two lessons in 50 minutes and now will discuss one in 25 minutes. The amount of time for all third block classes is the same, just split over two weeks instead one.

To summarize, the Church is really emphasizing Home Centered, Church Supported that focuses on learning from the teaching that happens at home and learning from the discussion that happens at church. All of this is so inspired and will be amazing.

We are inviting the adults to attend any of the three Gospel Doctrine classes offered each Sundays. They are held in the High Council room, the Relief Society room, and on the stage. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend any of these classes.

A weekly Gathering Place for YSAs in Springville has been established and we ask that you extend a personal invitation to all graduating seniors and all other YSAs in your ward boundary to attend the Gathering Place.

A Gathering Place is a space where young single adults can participate in uplifting activities and experiences that strengthen connections with one another and with the Lord. For now, it consists of Institute classes and a dinner every Thursday night. The Gathering Place is held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 50 N Main Street in Springville. Establishing a YSA Gathering Place

Ward 15 (09:00 (am))
- Sunday: Unlock building, set up chairs, distribute hymn books

Ward 17 (10:30 (am))
- Every Day: Snow Shoveling*, Building Lockup
- Agent-Bishop Duties: Maintain Supplies (Copy Paper, Printer Toner, Sacrament Cups)

Ward 13 (12:00 (pm))
- Sunday: Take down chairs, empty garbage bins, lock up building
