Clean Garage
I am sure each of you has a perfectly clean and organized garage. But just in case you don’t, this time of year can be a great opportunity to get your garage deep cleaned. Or, at the very minimum, raise the garage door, set up a comfy chair, grab a book and a soda, and enjoy the Fall weather.
A Plan if it feels overwhelming:
Begin by completely emptying the garage, placing items into keep, donate/sell, or trash categories. (You may just put the trash items right into the trash, to be more efficient.)
Sweep the floor and remove cobwebs from all corners, nooks, and crannies.
Wash walls, shelves, and windows with warm, soapy water or an all-purpose cleaner; a sponge mop or microfiber mop helps reach high and awkward spots.
Inspect for pests or any structural issues during cleaning and seal any entry points to prevent future problems.
For stubborn stains on the floor (like oil spots), use a degreaser or a mix of powdered laundry detergent and water, scrub, and rinse.
Consider pressure washing the floors for a deep clean and allow to fully air dry before moving items back.
Wipe down all tools, bins, and objects before returning them to the garage.
Immediately dispose of or donate sorted items to avoid clutter creeping back in.
Organizing and Preventing Clutter
Sort items by category: tools, cleaning supplies, automotive, sports, seasonal décor, garden supplies, etc.
Replace cardboard boxes with plastic bins to protect from moisture and pests.
Use vertical space: install shelves, cabinets, pegboards, brackets, and ceiling racks to keep most items off the floor.
Regularly purge unnecessary items and clean at least once a year to maintain the garage's condition.
Or, take a trip into the mountains to check out the fall foliage or go to a football game, and put off the garage until next year.
A weekly Gathering Place for YSAs in Springville has been established and we ask that you extend a personal invitation to all graduating seniors and all other YSAs in your ward boundary to attend the Gathering Place.
